Growing up!

Lucy is getting to be such a big girl! No more baby about her, even though I still call her my baby 'cause she is! As of last Monday, Lucy Elizabeth is now a very grown up 2 year old.

She is constantly cracking us up with the funny things she says. She loves communicating and is really growing in her speaking and sentence creation skills. She's putting new words and thoughts together all the time, and surprises us at the random things she'll remember. She's also becoming a little tape recorder, so we're having to be a little extra careful these day, haha. The other day I said "Oh my gosh" about something that shocked me, and Lucy immediately repeated "Dosh! Oh my dosh!" Whoops! She also enjoys using the phrase, "Just a minute!" at random times.

We've been working with her lately on emotions and facial expressions. Her favorite way is through role playing. She asks us to cry several times a day, giggles, then calmly walks up and hugs us to "make it all better." She's very perceptive, and notices people. One time I was frustrated and crying about something, and Lucy saw. She commented "mommy cry" and then walked up and hugged me. It completely melted my heart and amazed me. :)

She also works hard at being brave. There have been times when she didn't want to do something (like go to bed or lie down for the dentist) and she began to cry. When I remind her of what she needs to do and asks her to do it, she'll sometimes take deep breaths and say "okay" while trying to calm down. She's definitely a 2 year old, and can throw some pretty exciting shows when she's mad about something. However, she's been doing a lot better, and when I stay patiently calm and happy she usually is quick to recover and be happy/cooperative too.

Some of her favorite things to do include puzzles, story time, coloring, playdough, puppies, helping mom with laundry, vacuuming with her toy vacuum, baths, safari animals, playing chase, and body slamming daddy.

Favorite color: pink I think...?
Favorite foods: pizza, lasagna, noodles, veggies (celery, tomatoes, carrots), bananas, avocados, graham crackers
Favorite shows: Clifford, Winnie the Pooh, Curious George, Super Why, Daniel Tiger, Zoboomafoo, Elmo's World
Favorite books: "Asleep, Asleep," Little Mouse and the Big Cupcake, Big Bird's book of big and little things, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Cinderella
Favorite Lullabies/Songs: I Am a Child of God, I Love to See the Temple, Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam, "Sleep, sleep" (lyrics from her Asleep Asleep book, tuned created by daddy), Old MacDonald

Her party was lots of fun! Sam's family and Val and Dan and their kiddos all came. We ate pizza, cupcakes, and ice cream. The kids played toys and the adults chatted, and we all had a good time. Lu loved opening presents.

Some firsts for our 2-yr-old include: a new bed, and turning her seat around in the car!
